Manage Your Passkeys

Managing your passkeys

Every passkey on your account is listed on your dashboard, under Passkeys. You can add one, give it a name, and remove one you no longer use

This is about your account on vauz.sealzi.com. It is not your vault — the Vauz application keeps that on your own device, and adding or removing an account passkey does nothing to it

What the list shows

Each passkey is one row:

  • Its name, or Unnamed passkey if nobody has given it one
  • When it was added, and when it was last used — or never used if it has not signed you in yet
  • An amber warning, on a passkey that cannot leave the device that made it: On this device only — if you lose it, you will need an email link to get back in

We keep only the most recent use, not a history. There is no list of when or where you signed in, because we do not record one

Adding another passkey

Press Add a passkey and approve your device's prompt. This is the single best thing you can do for your account: with two passkeys, no one device is the only way in

Every addition is emailed to you, titled A passkey was added to your vauz.sealzi.com account. If a message like that arrives and it was not you, someone else has accessed your account — sign in with a passkey you already had, remove the new one and change password to your email address

Renaming a passkey

Click Rename button to the right of the passkey, and type a new name, up to 60 characters. Useful once you have more than one: Work laptop and Phone tell you what you are about to remove, where two unnamed rows do not

Renames are emailed to you too, and that is deliberate. A stranger's passkey relabelled to look like your own is how it stops standing out in this list, so the notice says what the old name was and what it is now

Names are yours alone. They are encrypted before they are stored, and they are not shown to anyone else on your family plan

Removing a passkey

Press Remove and confirm. The confirmation quotes the name back to you, so you can see which one you are about to lose

A passkey with no Remove button is your only one. Instead of the button, the row reads Your only passkey — add a second one before you can remove this. Removing your last passkey would leave nothing to sign in with but an emailed link, so it is not offered at all rather than offered and refused. Add a second passkey and the button appears on both. If what you actually want is the account gone, delete the account instead — that is a separate button and it says what it does

One refusal here is normal, not an error:

  • A 24-hour wait, if you got in through a recovery link. See below

After signing in with a recovery link

A recovery link is proved by your mailbox alone, so for the first 24 hours a passkey added that way cannot remove another passkey or delete the account, and for the first 30 minutes it cannot open billing. The message tells you which wait applies and when it lifts

That window exists for you: it is the time in which the "a passkey was added" email reaches you, so that if somebody else used your mailbox you can still sign in with your original passkey and remove theirs

Signing in with a passkey you set up yourself clears the restriction immediately — you do not have to wait it out
