Delete Your Account

Delete your account

At the bottom of your dashboard, in the Danger zone, press Delete Account, type your email address exactly as it is on your account, and press Confirm Deletion. There is no undo: any plan you pay for stops straight away, and your passkeys stop signing in to vauz.sealzi.com

This deletes your account on the website: your plan, your place in a family and your billing. It doesn't touch your vault. The passwords you keep in the Vauz app stay on your own device, and the website account never sees them

Before you start

  • A plan you pay for ends straight away, not when the time you paid for runs out, and billing stops. Under the Terms of Service (opens in a new tab) the unused part isn't refunded, except where the law says otherwise — see Refunds
  • Only want to stop paying? You don't need to delete anything: cancel your plan instead — see Choose, change or cancel your plan
  • If you run a family, it passes to someone else in it rather than closing. It closes only if nobody else is in it. See What happens to your family
  • If you got back into your account with an emailed link in the last 24 hours, deleting has to wait — see Safety pause

Steps

Step 1: Sign in

Go to https://vauz.sealzi.com/enter/ (opens in a new tab) and press Sign in with a passkey. Your dashboard opens

Step 2: Go to the Danger zone

Scroll to the bottom, or press Danger zone in the menu. It says "You can delete your account here" and "Careful though, there's no undo 😬"

Step 3: Press Delete Account

A box opens: "Heads up: there's no undo on this one" and "If you pay for a plan, it's cancelled and billing stops"

Step 4: Type your email address

Under "Type your email address below to confirm", type the address on your account exactly as it shows under Email address on your Profile card, at the top of the dashboard. Capital letters count: if it shows Mary.Smith@example.com, then mary.smith@example.com doesn't match. A space at the start or the end doesn't matter

Step 5: Press Confirm Deletion

Cancel closes the box and changes nothing

Step 6: Confirm it's you, if asked

Unless you signed in within the last five minutes, a box titled "Confirm it's you" says "Deleting your account can't be undone, so your device asks for your passkey first". Press Use my passkey and approve your device's prompt with your fingerprint, face or PIN. The deletion goes ahead straight after

Step 7: Done

The page says "Account deleted. Take care 👋", and a few seconds later it takes you to the Vauz home page. Your account is signed out on every device

If it says the addresses don't match, or can't be checked

  • Check the capital letters against Email address on your Profile card. Copying it from there is the surest way
  • If your Profile card shows no email address at all, your account details didn't load — the page will have said "Couldn't load your account details 😬 A refresh usually sorts it out, or write to support@vauz.sealzi.com if it keeps happening". Until they load, the box has nothing to check against and says "Your account details didn't load, so this can't be checked 😬 Refresh the page and try again". Refresh the page and start again

What happens to your plan and billing

Billing stops before anything is deleted. Vauz asks Helcim — the company that handles card payments for Vauz, see What is Helcim? — to cancel your plan, and deletes the account only once Helcim confirms that nothing can charge you any more. If Helcim can't confirm it, your account is not deleted, and the page says "Couldn't confirm with Helcim that billing has stopped, so your account is still here 🛑 Try again in a few minutes"

We also ask Helcim to remove your saved card. Helcim keeps its own record of your payments, and we can't delete that for you — see the Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab)

Once billing has stopped, it stays stopped. If the deletion then fails, the page says "Your plan has ended and billing has stopped, but the account itself couldn't be deleted just now. Try again in a moment 🤞". Your plan is over at that point, even if you change your mind and keep the account

What happens to your family

  • If you run the family, it is handed on rather than closed: to the guardian who joined first, or if there is no guardian, to the first person paying for its plan, or failing that to whoever joined first. They get one email, You now run your family on vauz.sealzi.com, which also says what happened to the family's plan. A family with nobody else in it is closed
  • If you're a member, you simply leave it. A seat you had goes to the next person in line
  • If you pay for the family's plan, the plan goes with you. The family moves to the best plan someone else in it pays for, or to Free. Everyone who loses their seat gets an email about it, except the new owner, whose one email covers it. See Family seats and guardians

What is kept, and what goes

From our records we erase your name, your email address and your passkeys. Records of the payments you made, and of what you agreed to, are kept as tax law and payment disputes require — without your name or email address

You can make a new account with the same email address later. It starts from nothing: no plan, no family and no passkeys

The email you get

Your vauz.sealzi.com account has been deleted arrives at the address the account had. It says "Your vauz.sealzi.com account is gone: its passkeys no longer sign in, any plan on it has stopped, and it has left any family it was in", and that your passwords in the Vauz app are untouched. It has no button. If you didn't delete your account, email support@vauz.sealzi.com straight away

The passkey on your device

Deleting the account doesn't reach into your phone or computer. The passkey stays among your device's saved passkeys, and your device may still offer it when you visit vauz.sealzi.com. If you try it, the sign-in page says "That passkey doesn't sign in to vauz.sealzi.com any more 🔑 It was removed from its account, or the account was deleted. Delete it from your device's saved passkeys, and sign in with another". Where your browser allows it, the page also asks your device to forget that passkey for you

To remove it yourself, open the place your phone or computer keeps your saved passwords and passkeys, find the one for vauz.sealzi.com, and delete it. See What is a passkey?
