Install the Vauz 2 beta
Vauz 2 is the next version of Vauz. The beta lets you try it on your Mac before it's released
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon. The beta isn't available for Intel Macs for now
- macOS 14 or later
The beta is for Mac only
Vauz 2 replaces Vauz 1.x on your Mac. It's also called Vauz, so it takes the place of Vauz 1.x in your Applications folder. Vauz 2 can't open a Vauz 1.x vault, and it can't import a file exported from Vauz 1.x yet. So before you install the beta, open Vauz 1.x, export your logins and keep the file somewhere safe. If you export without a passphrase, anyone who opens that file can read your passwords
Download and install
Download the beta
Go to vauz.sealzi.com/download (opens in a new tab) and download the Vauz 2 beta for Mac
Quit Vauz 1.x, if you have it
Press ⌘ + Q in Vauz 1.x. See How to Fully Quit Vauz
if it keeps running
Open the disk image and drag Vauz to Applications
If Vauz 1.x is in your Applications folder, your Mac asks whether to replace it. Make sure you exported your logins from Vauz 1.x first
Open Vauz from your Applications folder
Not from the disk image. Once Vauz is open from Applications, you can eject the disk image
A copy of Vauz opened from the disk image can't update itself or connect to your browsers. If you opened that one, quit it and open Vauz from your Applications folder instead
Set a V-Key
Until you set a V-Key, Vauz 2 opens with your Mac, so anyone who can use your account on it can open your vault. A V-Key is a password only you know. Once you set one, Vauz asks for it each time it opens, or for Touch ID if you turn that on, and your vault copies open on any Mac. See Set a V-Key in the Vauz 2 beta
Every feature is free during the beta
During the beta, every feature in Vauz is yours to use, the Plus and Premium ones included. In Settings, those are marked Free during the beta, and the User Account window says Premium, free during the beta
The beta ends on 31 December 2026. After it, the Plus and Premium features come with those plans
Updates
The beta updates itself. It installs the next beta, and Vauz 2.0 once it's released, whichever you pick under New versions in Settings, then Updates
When a new version is ready, Vauz tells you, and installs it when you quit or lock Vauz, or once you're away for a few minutes. To install it straight away, choose Restart now
If you turn on No outbound requests in Settings, then Security, Vauz doesn't look for updates or download them by itself. If Vauz says it couldn't check for updates, see Vauz says it couldn't check for updates
Not in the beta
Sync between devices and protected entries aren't in the beta
