Why is tax added, and can I buy from outside Canada?
Vauz is sold in Canada, so prices are in Canadian dollars and Canadian sales tax is added on top, worked out from the province in your billing address. A paid plan needs a Canadian billing address: there is no way to enter one from another country
Prices are in Canadian dollars
- C$ means Canadian dollars, so C$4.70 is 4 dollars and 70 cents in Canadian money. CAD is the short name for the same money
- The pricing page (opens in a new tab) says "Prices in CAD, for a Canadian billing address. GST/HST is added at checkout based on your province", and the Confirm your plan box on your dashboard says it again
Why tax is added
Prices are shown before tax. That is why you see plus tax on your dashboard: on the button you
press to pay, such as Pay C$4.70 plus tax, on your Plan card (Renews on [date] for C$4.70 plus
tax), and in the sentence you tick (plus applicable tax, see
Who is Sealzi?)
- The tax is Canada's sales tax, written GST/HST. GST is the Goods and Services Tax. HST, the Harmonized Sales Tax, is what some provinces charge instead, with their own sales tax rolled into it
- How much you pay depends on the province or territory in your billing address. Helcim, our payment processor, works it out from that address. See What is Helcim?
- Each payment shows the price and the tax separately: under
Manage Plan, thenPayments, and on its receipt, which also shows our GST/HST registration number. See Receipts and tax
The billing address has to be Canadian
Your billing address is the address your bank has for your card, where the card's statements go. The first time you add a card, the card page asks for it, under Step 1 of 2 · Billing address. Vauz is sold in Canada, so the billing address has to be Canadian:
Countryoffers only CanadaProvince or territorylists the thirteen Canadian provinces and territories, Quebec includedPostal codehas to be a Canadian one. Anything else gets "That postal code doesn't look Canadian. It's like T2P 1J9"
Enter the address your bank has for your card. Helcim uses it to check the card, as well as to work out the tax
So you cannot buy a plan with a billing address outside Canada. A free account needs only an email address, and no billing address at all. See Create an account
What happens to your address
The card page says it plainly: "Your billing address goes to Helcim, our payment processor, to work out the tax and check the card. We do not keep it"
The address is asked for once, with your first card. Replacing your card later does not ask for it again. See Add or replace your card
